Gathering Together

Healing Through Creativity

We are not all going to paint as well as Picaso play as well as Bach, or write as well as

Emerson, but we need to see what our gift is. Doing something creative not only exercises our

mind, it gives us a sense of accomplishment, it can free us from the anxieties we may be feeling.

The Lord has given us all special gifts, we are all part of the body, and as part of the body

we all have our place. Creativity is a more universal gift than we think, and the Lord uses

creativity as a healing form .I am not saying that if we give a person with an illness or disability

a paint brush, or a notebook to begin writing in they are suddenly going to get out of their beds

and walk, but if that is the Lord's desire it can be done. After all he rose Lazarus from the dead.

Creativity and Image is all part of God's plan, if you look at a sunset or a sun rise or hold

an innocent child in your arms you will see that God gave us these wonderful gifts for a reason.

He wants us to use our imagination, our creativity. The word Imagination in fact derived from

the word Image!

We are not all going to paint as well as Picaso play as well as Bach, or write as well as

Emerson, but we need to see what our gift is. Doing something creative not only exercises our

mind, it gives us a sense of accomplishment, it can free us from the anxieties we may be feeling.

"Give yourself a chance to explore your creativity; risk making mistakes to find your

undiscovered talent." (Clairmont 75)

Genesis 1:27-31 (New International Version)

27 So God created man in his own image,

in the image of God he created him;

male and female he created them.

28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and

subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that

moves on the ground."

29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every

tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth

and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has

the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so.

31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was

morning—the sixth day.

My creativity happens to lay in my words, and in the gift of working with Children, but

we all have some gift. We are all called to do something. We can garden and look at the beauty

of God's creation how something as tiny as a seed grows into a beautiful plant or food for us to

eat.

"We are hard wired to respond emotionally to the wonder of art. I believe God has given

us many elements in this life that help to help us, inspire us and remind us of our creator, as well

as enlarge our interior worlds. Art might well top the list of contributors to those benefits."

(Clairmont 76)
